GDNL Game Jam FAQ

  1. What is a game jam?
    1. A game jam is an event where people come together to create games in a specific (usually short) period of time.
  2. Who can participate?
    1. Our jam is open to participants from any background, whether it be professional, hobbyist, or passionate onlooker.

We are also open to all ages, though we do require those under 17 to be accompanied by an adult. In addition, only teams whose members are 18 years of age or older are eligible to submit their work to the Global Game Jam, due to the GGJ age restrictions. This does not affect the game’s eligibility for our Closing Showcase or the participant’s ability to win door prizes at our event.

  3. How much does it cost?
    1. Participation is free!
  4. Do I have to make a video game?
    1. No! The GDNL Game Jam is open to anyone interested in building interactive experiences. We’d love to see entries that push the boundaries, whether that be in the form of a boardgame, an interactive art installation, or something even crazier. The only thing to remember is, it should still follow the jam theme, which will be announced on January 26th at our opening kickoff.
  5. But I can make a video game?
    1. Of course! Many of our members are actively creating video games at the moment, and this is a great time to meet them if you’d like to try your hand at it as well.
  6. What’s in it for me?
    1. The main reward for any game jam is the sense of accomplishment that comes with making a game that people can play for themselves. The jam itself is not a competition, but a creative community event.

Having said that, we’re planning to have a few fun surprises for our jammers, and you might be lucky enough to bag a few if you show up!
