Our July meetup went off (with only a couple of glitches) last night. We were happy to welcome Andrew Menchions as well as Laura Churchill and Dorian Rowe from NLFDC, who gave us a high-level introduction to tax credits game developers can avail of. Jordan Galbraith of Orange Slip Studios shared some of his experiences trying to raise money for a new company. Jeff Mercer from the Department of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation helped fill in some of the blanks, and indicated that our members are always welcome to come talk about their work to see if there are programs that might help them get a leg up.
The live stream cut off in the middle of the discussion, unfortunately, but we were able to recover at least a couple of remote attendees using our appear.in room. The volume there was apparently not ideal, so we’ll continue to work on that setup for future events. At the very least we’ll add a spare laptop charger to the GDNL equipment box!
Thanks to all our invited guests as well as our attendees, both in-person and remote. Hope to see you all again in August!
Just a reminder that our July meetup is tomorrow night at 7:30PM at Common Ground, 30 Harvey Road. We’ll hopefully have a number of folks from the local business community dropping in to offer a few helpful hints on the subject, and it would be great if y’all had your own tips and experiences to share as well!
In light of some unfortunate news in the community, we’re holding a social gathering with free lemonade for everyone.
Note that this event is in addition to and separate from our July 11th monthly meetup.
Hope to see you there!
Date & Time
7:30PM, Thursday June 29th, Common Ground Coworking, 30 Harvey Road
Our next meetup will take place at 7:30PM on July 11th at Common Ground, 30 Harvey Road.
We’re going to try something a little different for this meetup. We’re inviting all attendees to come and share their thoughts and experiences with finding and attracting funding for their projects. Funding is the most-asked-for topic at our meetings right now, and in lieu of having a dedicated talk on the topic, we’ll see if we can get some synergy going.
We are inviting some special guests who may have insight into this issue, and if any attendees would like to invite their own special guests, that would be very much appreciated!
Thanks to Ryan Hale for the suggestion of an open discussion.
If you’d like to book a 2-minute Appetizer slot to talk about a topic of interest before the main meetup, please fill out the form below:

We had another successful meetup this week!
Thanks again this month to Orange Slip Studios for sponsoring the meetup. We put that money to good use and made a couple of nice upgrades to our setup.
The first upgrade was an improved stream, including a “speaker cam”. Our speaker didn’t need the double camera, so we just used the new fancy camera for the whole stream, but we’re ready for anything now!
The other big upgrade was the addition of meet and mingle devices. We added four appear.in rooms, each on a separate device (my old electronic devices, with mounts provided through the generosity of OSS), arranged around the space to allow remote attendees to join in the social fun.
For future meetups, we’ll probably cut that back to just two:
I hope folks from around the province will take advantage of these as time goes on. We always have an interesting mix of folks, including our various Developer members, hobbyists, and all things in between.
Our friends at NDev are having a meetup on June 28th to talk about the Agile school of software development and its use in everyday practice. Sounds like an interesting talk!
Our June Meetup is happening next week on on Tuesday the 13th. Looking forward to meeting our guest speaker, Kenny Backus, and hoping to see a few new faces in the crowd (as well as the regulars of course)!

Our June meetup (also on Facebook) has a special guest! Kenny Backus of Sky Rogue fame is in town, and he has kindly agreed to come in and chat with our community!
